It’s about time that somebody as hit-rich as you guys threw their weight behind this. MetaFilter has been squabbling about it forever and never getting anywhere. Participatory journalism has taken root in Korea and Japan; why not here? You guys are an inspiration as learn-on-the-job amateur new editors. The skills of journalism pros are not be sneezed at, as they often are by the “who needs journalists?” faction, but they’re not rocket science, either.
Here’s an interesting study on the topic. You go, agonizers! I’ll be rooting for you, and contributing keystrokes if I can think of anything not lame. Personal request: get translators involved, offer more international news from primary sources.

Scoop rocks….make sure this place looks more like Kos and less like Tacitus. Personally, I hate Tac’s design and the threads are always impossible to follow.

I find the format somewhat counterintuitive. I miss being able to scan a quick summary of top stories instead of needing to click to get at things (at home I’m on sloooow dialup, so reading this could take days).
Voting on stories could make this whole process take longer and it may drive away some of the fringe-y elements as they will find their stories not being promoted or accepted. (this may or may not be a good thing)

Will there be a PM capability or is there one I have not seen? I seldom used the one on the old site but it was quite handy when I did given that everyone is basically anonymous and there is no other way to have conversations off the record.

Not here but you can PM people on the old BB or email them if their e-mail address is not hidden.

Thanks Nick. I thought that the old board had been shut down because when I tried to enter it I was automaticaly redirected to scoop. Now that isn’t happening.

I have visited this board several times since you launched the new format/scheme. To date, I have no clue as to how to participate, and where to post. I predict you will lose readership and posters expodentially.
