How to add a PC to Invision

To begin with, the only reason for adding a PC to the mainframe definitions is so that Invision knows where the PC is and can thus be told what printer is appropriate for that particular PC.

Before we add a PC, the IP MUST be Reserved in the DHCP. We also want to know the department, so we can give a meaningful name if possible. We also want to know what printer is to be used for the PC.

Order of actions:
  1) Verify/identify printer to be used and record name.
  2) Verify that IP of PC not already defined.
  3) Invent a PC name not already used.
  4) Add PC TermID/IP to TCPIP, 'lock' to A2K.
  5) Add PC LUname to permanent VTAM definition.
  6) Create temporary VTAM definition with only new LUname.
  7) Activate the temporary VTAM definition and display it.
  8) Activate the TCPIP change.
  9) Add the TermID to A2K.
 10) Update ticket with TermID and add/verify printer info.
 11) Assign ticket to Joe Schneider (or Chris Haupt).
 12) Record PC IP/TermID and printer info to go into Intranet database.

Example: We are to add 10.10.21 111 in the Emergency Enema department

We decide to call it '3EE1'
TSO Edit SYS1.TCPPARMS(LUMAP)
F 10.10.21.111 - to make sure it is not already defined
F VTER3EE1 - to make sure it is not already defined
go to bottom, duplicate last line and modify it to read:
LUMAP VTER3EE1 10.10.21.111
Save and exit

Edit SYS1.TCPPARMS(DEFAPPL)
F 10.10.21.111 - to make sure it is not already defined
go to bottom, duplicate last line and modify it to read:
DEFAULTAPPL A2K 10.10.21.111
Save and exit
NOTE: IP is added to DEFAPPL unless user requires access to TSO and/or A2KTEST
Mapping an IP to an LU limits the user to one Rumba session.

Edit SYS1.VTAMLST
Edit (for example) TCPTRMV3
go to bottom, duplicate last line and modify it to read:
VTER3EE1 APPL AUTH=NVPA.....
Save
Go to top
On command line, enter (for example) CREATE XXX01
On 1st line, enter 'C999'
Hit ENTER
Exit
REF
Edit XXX01
Delete all except first and last lines - should read
   YX02 VBUILD ...
   VTER3EE1 APPL AUTH=NVPA...
Save and exit
PF3 back to main ISPF menu
S;log
/v net,act,id=xxx01,scope=all
/d net,id=xxx01,e
should see 'VTER3EE1 CONCT'
ENTER
NOTE: You MUST activate the VTAM definition before doing the TCPIP command!

Activate TCPIP change
NOTE: Do NOT do the following command unless the previous '/d net,id=xxx01,e' showed the VTAM LU as CONCT!
/V TCPIP,,O,SYS1.TCPPARMS(OBEYFILE)
ENTER
(TSO session will 'hang' a couple seconds)
Logoff TSO

Add to A2K
Logon A2K
Clear screen
SMSN
Id LDT and Password LDT
Clear screen
TMF
3EE1 in Termid field
should see 'terminal not found'
ENTER
PF5 - get to 'modify' screen
Enter 'VTER3EE1' in NETNAME field
Enter '3EE1' in Termind field
Enter ' I ' in ACTION field
ENTER
Should see 'terminal added'

NOTE 1: We rarely add to A2KTEST, but process is the same.

NOTE 2: When a PC is added, it is usually mapped to a specific printer. The IP/name of the printer is usually given us when the PC request is made. After adding the PC, we have an analyst do the PC/Printer mapping.

NOTE 3: Record the information so that it can be added to the MS Access database for the IP/ID Lookup part of this site.
